FAQS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: TELL ME ABOUT PRICING VARIATIONS AND CUSTOM ORDERS.

Glad you asked! Pricing is calculated by timber costs and estimated build time. Timber costs vary due to the length and end section dimensions (width and thickness – i.e. 100mm x 50mm (4’ x 2’). Recycled timber is a labour-intensive material. It is also difficult to work with which increases finishing times. Large pieces of timber can require more than one man to work on it. Bench tops and table tops take longer to prepare as each individual nail hole and gum vein is filled with epoxy resin to ensure a high quality of finished product.

Q: WHERE IS YOUR TIMBER SOURCED?

We source all of our reclaimed timber locally from the Hunter Region. We select timber generally pulled from demolished homes and commercial premises.  The Round 2 Timbers aesthetic uses recycled timber full of character and real wood features.  This means that all the holes and marks remain as evidence of a previous life. We then fill and stabilise these features which gives our products their individual characteristics. Recycled timber is more likely to have variances in tone and colour as a result of growing in natural forest conditions as opposed to plantation timber which is fast grown in controlled conditions.

Q: WHAT SPECIES OF TIMBER DO YOU USE?

For most orders we batch our timber by colour; mixed browns, mixed reds or mixed browns and reds together. We cannot 100% guarantee the species of timber we stock as it is sourced from demolitions.   Generally our timber falls into the following species:

Mixed browns
Blackbutt, Spotted Gum, Tallowwood, Messmate. Stringybark, Brown-top Stringybark, Australian Oak, Tasmanian Oak.

Mixed reds (Including pink)
Red Gum, Red Ironbark, Red Mahogany, Blue Gum, Pink, Brush Box, Rose Gum.

Q: DOES R2T DO INSTALLATION?

Round 2 Timbers can organise an approved contractor for a bench top and fixed furniture installation. We can also recommend several licensed builders, carpenters and flooring trades that we work closely with.

Q: DO I NEED TO PAY A DEPOSIT?

Yes.  To secure your job and for the work to commence, we require a 30% non-refundable deposit of the total cost of the job.

Q: HOW DO I MAKE PAYMENT?

Round 2 Timbers does not accept credit cards or eftpos.  All payments are made on receipt of invoice and a direct transfer into our bank account.  Details are outlined on the invoice.

Q: WHAT IS THE LEAD TIME?

Our lead time generally starts at 2 weeks but can be longer depending on how busy we are.  Lead times can also be affected by the size and complexity of the job.

Q: DO YOU USE A STAIN?

No. All our products are raw finished.  We recommend the use of Liberon Oil to finish the timber which when used correctly will bring out the natural tone and features of the timber whilst giving a hard wearing and protective finish.

Q: DO YOU HAVE A SHOWROOM?

We currently do not have a showroom as such, but we welcome visitors to our workshop to see what we are working on and look at samples of colour choices in the office.
